Ecosia has just announced the launch of a new dashboard that shows you, with supporting figures, what your searches actually fund.

Ecosia publishes its accounts: a step toward transparency

Ecosia has never hidden its purpose: to fund reforestation and regeneration projects through advertising revenue. The team has just taken a further step: an interactive dashboard, accessible from the connected home page.

At first glance:

• 'seeds' counter : a playful entry point to the data.
• Detailed metrics : trees planted, hectares restored, megawatt-hours of green energy funded.
• Mapping : every localized initiative, from Brazil's Northeast to the forests of Borneo.

By making these indicators visible, Ecosia confirms an approach based on transparency: showing, without frills, where the money generated by your searches goes.

This dashboard replaces the evolving counter of the number of trees planted. That said, in a press release, Ecosia's management specifies:

“Ecosia’s mission has always been to turn your daily use of digital technology into concrete action for the climate, and this action now extends well beyond tree planting.”

Digital technology, an energy hog (and AI doesn't help)

According to a report ADEME–Arcep, digital already accounts for 3% to 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions; 79% come from device manufacturing, 16% from data centers, 5% from networks.

TheIEA estimates the total electricity consumption of data centers at 415 TWh in 2024 and anticipates 945 TWh by 2030, equivalent to Japan's current demand, and AI is intensifying this trend: Ten ChatGPT queries per day already generate around a hundred kilograms of CO2 per year, notes Jean-Marc Jancovici.

In this energy-hungry landscape, Ecosia stands out thanks to straightforward transparency its new dashboard publicly details where every advertising euro goes and how each “seed” is converted into concrete on-the-ground projects.

Impact calculator for businesses

Ecosia also offers a impact calculator for organizations: simply enter the number of employees and years of use, and the page displays the number of trees funded, the tonnes of CO2 captured, the equivalent area in football fields and even the “additional days of breath” created.

The tool emphasizes that the service is free, that it integrates easily into ESG reporting, and that a monthly “tree report” is offered to companies with more than a thousand employees to track their searches and collective impact

How to view your dashboard on Ecosia?

To access your dashboard, it's very simple:

1. Log in to your Ecosia account (or create your own)
2. You'll see your number of "seeds" appear at the top right
3. Through your personal profile (https://www.ecosia.org/accounts/profile) you'll have access to:
   • Your seedlings planted (average of users at the same level as you)
   • Energy generated by Ecosia's solar panels
   • Information levels are available for levels 5 and 10
