Details on what influences AI Overviews results

Liz Reid detailed how user behavior and content quality influence results in AI Overviews. She explains that users' preferences (short videos, forums, in-depth content, etc.) directly guide the types of content Google highlights. The system learns from clicks and interactions to continuously adjust the ranking and nature of the displayed results.

Regarding AI-generated content, Google does not automatically consider it spam. Only content deemed “low value” or lacking a human perspective is downgraded. Reid specifies that what matters is the quality, depth and uniqueness of the content, regardless of its origin (human or AI).

Click data shows that users prefer content that offers a human, rich and original perspective, rather than superficial or repetitive texts. Google therefore favors pages that demonstrate real expertise, thorough work and unique added value.

Finally, Reid states that the definition of “spam” has been broadened: it now includes any redundant content that only repeats information already knownredundant content that merely repeats information already known. Conversely, Google increases the ranking weight of content that provides a personal viewpoint, industry expertise or detailed analysis.

Reliability rate: ⭐⭐⭐ Agreed!

Interesting clarifications about a feature that is not yet available in France. The widening of the spam concept is fairly logical, especially at a time when AI tends to encourage the proliferation of content with no added value.

Google Search Console API: there is no change in the frequency of data delivery

John Mueller (Google) confirmed that there has been no change no change in the speed or frequency of updates to the Google Search Console API. For several weeks, users had been complaining about delays in data availability, both in BigQuery and in Search Console. John Mueller replied on Bluesky that no technical modifications had been made and that these occasional slowdowns are normal.

In summary:

  • No change in the frequency of data sent via the API.
  • The observed slowdowns are not the result of an update or a structural issue.
  • These delays sometimes occur without any intervention being needed.
