It’s not enough to act smart by calling myself 'Le Chef'; I should do a better job following the SEO advice I give you!
I almost messed up! I admit it! I updated a plugin without making a prior backup. And I lost my nice GT Metrix score. I was proud to be at 99/93 but now I’m stuck at 80/83 and it breaks my heart. It could have been much worse: a broken site and hours of lost work. And hours spent restoring all the content. So, alongside the recipes you follow, follow this advice before making any changes to your blog, updates like installing a new plugin:
- Choose a time when your site has low traffic
- Check your GTMetrix score
- Backup with UpdraftPlus
- Thoroughly check your site with two different browsers and by opening a page in private browsing (incognito) mode
- Check your GTMetrix score. If it went up, congratulations! If not, don’t hesitate to restore it — I’ll soon tell you how to set up a second test site in parallel!
