Recipe No. 12 Jetpack or Not? The secrets of SEO seasoning

There are tough decisions to make. Unsalted or salted butter? Right or left? Run or walk in the rain? Jetpack or no Jetpack? If you’re completely new and fresh out of the egg when it comes to building websites, you’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. Jetpack — the rocket pack, the special suit — provided by the creators of WordPress. It’s a Super Plugin hiding a cave of wonders, a walk-in fridge full of delicious options and great tools. Yes, but. Because there is a catch. Remember the last time you went shopping without a cart? You’re starting to get the idea. You’ll quickly end up overloaded with things you hadn’t planned for. And it all becomes heavy. Very heavy, even. And it slows down your site. So, the question — Jetpack or not — shall we answer it? Here we go…

Jetpack or Not Jetpack? The secrets of SEO seasoning

This recipe will give you the keys to open the cave, but if you find it too heavy to digest, close it again without regret.

  • 1 wordpress.com account
  1. Measure your performance on GTmetrix.com
  2. Go to your Plugins menu, then Add and select JetPack for WordPress (it's the second one by default!). Activate it!
  3. The plugin will offer you a bunch of settings, the most interesting in my opinion being automatic posting to social networks and Akismet (which you already activated in Recipe No.11 https://alaseoupe.com/archivesrecette/recette-n11-tu-ne-veux-pas-manger-du-spam-toute-ta-vie-si/)
  4. Run another test on GTmetrix.com
  5. Decide whether you think the trade-off is worth it given the performance loss.

Honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to that question. It depends on many criteria. I haven’t activated Jetpack on alaSEOupe.com, but I have done so on other websites with good results. In any case, it’s up to you to decide. Sorry 😉
